## About the role

Responsibilities:
- Design and improve large-scale search and retrieval pipelines: candidate generation, query processing, matching, filtering and ranking.
- Explore and implement lexical, semantic, behavioural and vector search approaches to improve relevance and coverage.
- Build and optimise ranking models and learning-to-rank solutions; design features from clicks, conversions, freshness, popularity and context.
- Develop multi-stage recommendation pipelines (recall + ranking) for personalised and non-personalised use cases.
- Define evaluation frameworks and run offline and online experiments (A/B tests) using metrics such as NDCG, MRR, CTR and conversion.
- Implement end-to-end ML pipelines for feature generation, training, deployment and monitoring in low-latency, high-load environments.
- Analyse failed searches, bias, edge cases and relevance degradation; improve robustness across segments and cohorts.
- Collaborate with product, backend, data engineering and MLOps teams and communicate technical trade-offs and results.

Requirements:
- Hands-on experience building production search, ranking or recommendation systems (aligned with role level).
- Strong Python and SQL skills for data processing, feature engineering and model pipelines.
- Experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch/TensorFlow) and boosting libraries (XGBoost/LightGBM/CatBoost).
- Familiarity with learning-to-rank techniques, relevance metrics (NDCG, MAP, MRR) and low-latency inference optimisations.
- Experience with large-scale data processing, streaming platforms (Kafka), orchestration (Airflow) and MLOps tooling.
- Proven ability to design, run and analyse A/B tests and to connect model improvements to product/business metrics.
- Strong analytical mindset, production focus and clear communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
