Responsibilities:
- Implement and improve AI-driven features (Logo maker, AI Images, AI Videos) in the Photoroom app and APIs.
- Design and architect scalable FastAPI services that chain internal and external AI/processing services.
- Ensure async code remains non-blocking: identify blocking calls, offload CPU-bound work appropriately, and protect the event loop.
- Monitor performance and scale the FastAPI service using Datadog; identify bottlenecks and add targeted caching to pipeline steps.
- Write integration tests and reliability checks for multi-service pipelines; own end-to-end delivery of features.
- Collaborate with product, ML, and infrastructure teams to translate requirements into robust API behaviour.
Requirements:
- Strong practical experience with FastAPI or another async Python web framework and deep understanding of asyncio patterns.
- Proven track record designing/updating REST APIs operating at scale, with monitoring (Datadog) and performance tuning experience.
- Ability to keep async handlers non-blocking and to manage CPU-bound workloads safely (threads/processes/queues).
- Experience writing integration tests and wiring multiple external services together reliably.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with high autonomy and ownership.
- Bonus: prior experience integrating AI APIs or media-processing pipelines.
