## About the role

Responsibilities:
- Design and build scalable retrieval systems that feed LLMs with relevant Asana and third‑party content.
- Reduce latency and cost of retrieval pipelines while improving result relevance and quality.
- Expand retrieval capabilities to new Asana objects and external data sources.
- Implement and optimize search infrastructure using OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.
- Contribute to ML-powered features (embeddings-based retrieval, semantic search) and validate KPIs.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in Warsaw and NYC to integrate features into product flows.

Requirements:
- 6+ years of production software engineering experience.
- Hands‑on experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch and search engineering best practices.
- Experience with embeddings and ML approaches to retrieval and semantic search.
- Familiarity with performance optimization, cost tradeoffs, and scalable systems design.
- Curiosity about AI tools and ability to collaborate across distributed teams; strong communication skills.

## Responsibilities

As a Staff Software Engineer on the AI Retrieval team, you’ll build the systems that power Asana's AI features by enabling fast, cost-efficient retrieval. You’ll reduce latency, improve the relevance of search results, and expand capabilities to new data sources, while building and optimizing search infrastructure using OpenSearch/Elasticsearch and contributing to embeddings-based retrieval and semantic search. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners in New York City and Warsaw to deliver scalable AI-powered search capabilities.

## Requirements

6+ years of production software experience. Hands-on experience in search engineering (OpenSearch/Elasticsearch) and embeddings/ML approaches to search; Applied AI experience is a plus.
