About the role
Responsibilities:
- Own and deliver quarterly technical goals for the Communications area; drive ambiguous, open-ended projects to completion.
- Design and evolve reliable backend services for high-volume messaging: orchestration, delivery, preferences, templates, and observability across multi-region, multi-tenant environments.
- Design and operate resilient integrations with external messaging vendors, balancing reliability, latency, cost, and compliance.
- Collaborate with product, design, analytics, security, and engineering partners to define scope, articulate technical constraints, and balance customer impact vs. trade-offs.
- Improve operational resilience: define SLOs, refine alerting and incident response, participate in on-call rotation, and support service availability.
- Raise engineering standards through testing, code review, rollout practices, and shared documentation; present learnings via writing and tech talks.
- Mentor and develop teammates by providing feedback, technical direction, and hands-on guidance.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of software development experience with strong system design and architecture skills.
- Proficiency in modern languages (Python, Kotlin, or similar) and building backend services.
- Hands-on experience with distributed systems and cloud platforms (AWS), including MySQL, DynamoDB, and Kubernetes.
- Experience designing multi-region, multi-tenant platforms with strong isolation and scalability considerations.
- Proven experience with API design, vendor integrations, latency/reliability trade-offs, and observability tooling.
- Operational mindset: defining SLOs, handling incidents, and participating in on-call rotations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience.
