About the role
Responsibilities:
- Build and evolve the Rules Platform: implement reliable, scalable backend services and reusable internal libraries.
- Drive architecture and system design decisions for distributed systems where reliability and data consistency are critical.
- Monitor SLOs, identify bottlenecks and drive performance and reliability improvements.
- Collaborate with Product and other engineering teams to prioritise needs and improve platform usability.
- Own end-to-end initiatives from problem definition through implementation and delivery.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions and mentorship to raise engineering quality.
Requirements:
- ~5 years of hands-on experience with JVM languages (Java or Kotlin) and backend systems.
- Experience with Kafka, SQL/databases and distributed systems where consistency matters.
- History of building or maintaining shared libraries or platform components used by multiple teams.
- Strong system design, trade-off analysis and technical decision-making skills.
- Product-oriented mindset, effective cross-team communication and mentoring experience.
- Familiarity with Spring Boot and experience in fintech or regulated environments is advantageous.

Candidates should also have experience with shared libraries, system design, technical decision-making, cross-team collaboration, and mentoring; Spring Boot and experience in fintech, financial crime, risk, or regulated environments are advantageous.
