Backend Engineer III at Referrals Only

Responsibilities:
- Design and implement backend services focused on reliability, scalability and customer impact.
- Collaborate with cross-functional squads to deliver product features and improve system observability and performance.
- Work with distributed systems tooling (Go/Java/Scala, Cassandra, Kafka, Envoy, Kubernetes, Docker, cloud).
- Participate in on-call, incident response, code reviews and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to team processes and help shape a healthy engineering culture and work/life balance practices.

Requirements:
- Strong backend engineering experience and a product-minded approach to building software.
- Familiarity with strongly-typed languages (Go, Java, C, Scala) and distributed systems concepts.
- Practical experience with Cassandra, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP).
- Comfortable working in ambiguous environments, collaborating across teams and iterating quickly.
- Willingness to work flexibly across UK locations (London or remote) and engage in team rituals.
