Engineering Manager (m/f/d) at Superchat

About the role

Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of ~3–4 engineers, owning hiring, growth and performance management.
- Spend ~50% hands-on: design architecture, implement features, perform code reviews and unblock technical work.
- Translate product goals into deliverable engineering plans and drive on-time delivery in a fast startup environment.
- Collaborate with Product and Design to shape pragmatic, customer-focused solutions and prioritize engineering work.
- Improve engineering practices: testing, CI/CD, observability, and use of AI-assisted development to increase velocity and quality.
- Represent the team to stakeholders and help balance technical debt, scalability and short-term delivery needs.

Requirements:
- 3+ years as a Senior/Staff engineer with ongoing hands-on development and at least 2 years of leadership (Tech Lead/EM or equivalent).
- Strong JVM experience (Java or Kotlin); familiarity with Kotlin/Quarkus and AWS is a plus.
- Proven track record delivering backend systems in production and working closely with product teams.
- Product-minded, strong communicator and able to explain technical detail to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable with rapid iteration, code review culture, and mentoring engineers to raise team output and quality.

Responsibilities
