About the role

Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and resolve scaling bottlenecks in critical backend services.
- Design and implement scalable architectures to handle increased traffic and data volumes.
- Deliver features to production and roll them out progressively using feature flags.
- Investigate, triage and fix production incidents for services owned by the team.
- Plan and prioritise team projects to improve performance, reliability and developer velocity.
- Use and evaluate AI tools to accelerate development and improve engineering workflows.

Requirements:
- Significant production experience in one or more backend languages and systems design at scale.
- Strong emphasis on code simplicity, performance and operational excellence.
- Proven ability to design architectures for high-scale distributed systems.
- BS/MS/PhD in a scientific field or equivalent practical experience.
- Interest or experience in leveraging AI tools for coding and building AI-enabled backend systems, with awareness of quality, cost and latency trade-offs.

Responsibilities

Solve a scaling bottleneck in a critical service, deploy new features to production with feature flags, investigate and fix production issues, and design scalable architectures for higher traffic.

Requirements

Significant experience in backend programming languages, ability to design architecture for high-scale systems, and a degree (BS/MS/PhD) or equivalent experience, with an interest in applying AI tools to development.
