Responsibilities:
- Build backend services that produce near real-time account overviews (actions, balances, events) with low latency and high correctness.
- Implement personalised, context-aware recommendation and discovery capabilities that are measurable and experimentable.
- Design and maintain APIs and supporting systems to ensure consistency, performance and cross-region availability.
- Tackle distributed system challenges: resilience, idempotency, retries, failure modes and capacity planning.
- Instrument services for observability and enable A/B testing and measurement across features.
- Embed security, privacy and compliance into design and delivery from day one.
- Collaborate closely with product, design and other engineers to prioritise customer value and deliver iterative improvements.

Requirements:
- Professional software development experience; preferably strong Java experience.
- Product mindset with focus on customer experience and data-driven decision making.
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, schema design and query optimisation.
- Good engineering practices: clean, testable code, code reviews and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with distributed and concurrent systems and related tooling.
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfort with experimentation, instrumentation and measuring impact in production.
