Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and maintain backend services and REST APIs for the UniProt data platform and public website.
- Produce scalable, well-tested and documented code to serve high-volume biological datasets and computational users.
- Maintain and monitor cloud infrastructure and web components (Solr, Kubernetes) to ensure availability and performance.
- Apply distributed processing and analytics techniques for large-scale data processing and performance tuning.
- Collaborate with bioinformaticians, scientists and cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready features on schedule.
Requirements:
- Degree in Computer Science or related discipline and ~3+ years professional experience in web/backend development.
- Proficiency in Java and/or Python and experience building RESTful services, ideally with SpringBoot.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, Solr and key-value stores; familiarity with Git and Unix commands.
- Understanding of scalable architectures and interest in big-data processing (Apache Spark desirable).
- Good communication skills, experience working in Agile teams, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
