Responsibilities:
- Design, build and maintain distributional forecasting models for fresh produce ordering, focusing on calibration, coverage and operational impact.
- Monitor forecast quality and backtest regularly; detect performance degradation and drive corrective action before issues reach stores.
- Contribute to stochastic inventory simulation and ordering policy frameworks; translate model outputs into order recommendations.
- Ship production-grade, well-tested Python/SQL code and own end-to-end pipeline quality (data inputs to live recommendations).
- Define technical direction, uphold software engineering standards (CI/CD, containers, reviews) and collaborate with Engineering and Customer Success.
- Use agentic AI tooling to increase productivity while maintaining rigorous code and model quality.
Requirements:
- 5+ years building decision systems under uncertainty with real operational consequences (not just prototypes).
- MSc/PhD in a quantitative field (Statistics, OR, Math, Physics, CS or similar).
- Strong experience in probabilistic forecasting, quantile methods, LGBM/GAMLSS-style models and conformal prediction.
- Solid knowledge of stochastic inventory theory (newsvendor models, service level optimisation) and inventory simulation.
- Production-grade Python and SQL experience on large, noisy datasets; familiarity with monitoring, evaluation and backtesting.
- Experience with GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Run, Vertex AI), dbt and workflow orchestration (Airflow/Cloud Composer); Git, containerisation and CI/CD.
- Fluent English; German or French a plus. Domain experience in perishables/supply chain a strong bonus.
