Sr Software Engineer I at American Express

Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and deliver new system capabilities and services that support cardmember experiences.
- Collaborate with business units, product, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
- Build and maintain backend microservices (Golang/Java) and frontend components (React/TypeScript) as needed.
- Ensure production readiness via CI/CD, automated tests, observability, and performance tuning.
- Follow secure development practices and contribute to system architecture and technical design reviews.
- Mentor peers, share best practices, and help improve team engineering processes.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in backend languages (Golang and/or Java/Spring Boot) and frontend frameworks (React, TypeScript).
- Experience building cloud-native, microservices-based systems using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, REST/gRPC APIs, observability (logs/metrics/tracing), and secure coding practices.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments; payments industry or enterprise-scale systems is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
