Staff Backend Engineer, Avatars at Synthesia

Responsibilities:
- Own system design and architecture for avatar and generative-media services, with focus on scalability, reliability, and low latency.
- Design data models and APIs to support avatar versions, personalization, sharing, and integration with voice/video pipelines.
- Collaborate with product, design, and R&D to align technical decisions with user needs and model capabilities.
- Drive long-term platform extensibility and maintainability; enforce code quality and technical standards.
- Optimize performance on critical video-generation paths and lead incident response and reliability improvements.
- Mentor engineers and act as a technical steward across multiple teams.

Requirements:
- Significant experience as a senior/staff backend engineer with strong system design and data modelling skills.
- Proven track record building product-facing, scalable backend systems that trade off speed, reliability, and maintainability.
- Experience integrating complex pipelines (media, voice, ML model outputs) and designing APIs for cross-team consumption.
- Familiarity with observability, performance tuning, and production reliability practices.
- Strong communication and ability to influence cross-functional roadmaps and technical direction.
