Engineering Manager (Product) at Apollo Research

Responsibilities:
- Own planning, tracking and delivery for the product engineering team; convert goals and commitments into scoped tickets with clear owners.
- Run the team operating rhythm (planning, standups or async equivalents, retros) and manage dependencies across research and infrastructure.
- Track customer commitments and coordinate releases, testing and documentation; surface risks and status to leadership.
- Directly manage engineers: run 1:1s, give actionable feedback, manage performance and support growth and wellbeing.
- Drive hiring decisions, run interview loops and onboard new hires to help them ship quickly.
- Stay hands-on: ship code in Python/TypeScript, review architecture and code, set technical standards and incident/release processes.
- Build tooling and processes (including AI-assisted tooling) that speed up the team and improve operational visibility.

Requirements:
- Strong software engineering background with several years of production coding experience and prior people-management responsibility.
- Comfortable shipping code (Python and TypeScript preferred) while operating as a player-coach in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Proven track record in planning, execution, and delivering customer-facing products; good judgment on scope and trade-offs.
- Experience hiring, mentoring and running performance management cycles.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to translate between researchers, engineers and product/CEO-level stakeholders.
- Comfortable with ambiguity, rapid change and building processes as the team scales.
