We’re a small team, growing fast with huge momentum - join early. As our Staff Backend Engineer, you’ll architect features and systems end-to-end at an incredible pace. This is an intense, hands-on role with full ownership. We expect you to push for excellence and raise the bar. 📍 Location: Remote with overlap to our New York City HQ (EST) Where you'll create impact Design and build core backend systems (Python preferred) Build APIs, services and infrastructure that handle real-time, business-critical and complex accounting logic Launch production-ready features from scratch, including CI/CD pipelines and deployment Work with product to turn complex finance workflows into performant, secure systems Manage complexity in a business-logic-heavy product, including data migrations and scale challenges Integrate third-party tools and external systems - proactively managing edge cases and risk Own your work from architecture to testing, monitoring, and post-release care What sets you up for success Hardcore work ethic and high agency 8+ years of experience in backend engineering (language agnostic) Deep experience with complex business logic products Experience deploying on AWS (or similar cloud infrastructure) Strong database skills: PostgreSQL, SQL, ORMs, migrations, schema design Experience building and testing robust APIs Solid understanding of software lifecycle, CI/CD, and production-readiness Ability to manage complex systems with evolving requirements Python and a modern web framework (FastAPI, Flask, or Django) is a plus Fluent in English (C1+) with strong written and verbal communication How You Operate Pragmatic: you like to move forward and make decisions based in reality (not theory). The Staff Backend Engineer will be responsible for architecting features and systems end-to-end at a fast pace, involving hands-on work with full ownership. Key tasks include designing and building core backend systems, developing APIs and infrastructure for complex accounting logic, and launching production-ready features including CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a hardcore work ethic and high agency, with over 8 years of experience in backend engineering, preferably with deep experience in complex business logic products. Essential technical skills include experience deploying on AWS, strong database skills (PostgreSQL, SQL, ORMs), and experience building robust APIs.
