Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver complex backend projects that enable Toast’s international expansion.
- Design, build, deploy and maintain highly resilient, scalable services running in restaurant and cloud environments.
- Orchestrate cross-service internationalization and fiscalisation support across our stack.
- Iterate on data-management approaches to support multi-market data needs and compliance.
- Mentor engineers, lead technical discussions, promote best practices and raise engineering standards.
- Work directly with pilot customers (including in-restaurant pilots) to validate features and ensure operational reliability.
- Integrate AI tools into development workflows to improve velocity and encourage experimentation.

Requirements:
- 8+ years building and running production services using Java, Kotlin or other OO languages.
- Proven experience architecting, debugging and operating large distributed, multi-threaded systems.
- Strong ownership: willing to work across the stack and support others resolving hard problems.
- Product-minded: focus on user outcomes and shipping usable software iteratively.
- Familiarity with internationalization and fiscalisation concerns (preferred).
- Excellent communication and mentorship skills; comfortable in cross-functional settings.
