Responsibilities:
- Design and build resilient, production-grade backend services for Monzo's in-house banking platform.
- Work on distributed systems, persistence and messaging (Cassandra, Kafka or equivalents) to support high-availability features.
- Own services end-to-end: coding, testing, deployment, observability and incident response on cloud platforms.
- Collaborate with product, design and other engineering teams to deliver customer-focused features with a product mindset.
- Improve system reliability, automation, performance and developer experience across the stack (Kubernetes, Docker, Envoy, CI/CD).
- Mentor peers, contribute to architecture and participate in system design discussions.

Requirements:
- Strong backend engineering experience building distributed and resilient systems in production.
- Proficiency in one or more strongly-typed languages (Go, Java, Scala, C) and experience with relevant frameworks.
- Experience with persistent data stores and messaging systems (eg Cassandra, Kafka) and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
- Practical knowledge of containerisation, orchestration and service proxies (Kubernetes, Docker, Envoy) and observability tooling.
- Solid system design skills, attention to reliability and performance, and a pragmatic, data-informed approach to trade-offs.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in a flexible/remote-friendly environment.
