About the role
Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow a product-aligned engineering team owning underwriting & pricing platforms (pricing engines, underwriting rules, risk appetite logic, quote services).
- Hire, coach and develop engineers; manage performance and create an environment that balances short-term delivery with long-term platform health.
- Own the technical roadmap, architecture and modernization efforts; prioritise work with Product, Actuarial and Commercial stakeholders.
- Ensure platform reliability, observability, CI/CD, incident response and operational excellence for every quote and pricing change.
- Drive technical strategy to reduce technical debt, improve delivery speed and enable safe, measurable business change.
- Define and track engineering metrics that demonstrate effectiveness, resilience and impact on the business.
Requirements:
- Proven senior engineering leadership experience building and managing high-performing product teams.
- Strong technical background in distributed backend systems, cloud-native development (e.g., Kubernetes, Azure), CI/CD and IaC.
- Experience operating resilient production systems, incident management and implementing observability and automated testing.
- Ability to partner effectively with Product, Actuarial and Commercial stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and people development skills.
- Desirable: hands-on experience with pricing/underwriting systems, familiarity with UK regulation (FCA, GDPR) and insurance domain knowledge.
