Responsibilities:
- Lead and grow a long-lived product engineering team owning the policy administration domain (policy lifecycle: creation, mid-term adjustments, renewals, cancellations, premium collection).
- Drive the migration from a legacy vendor system to Homeprotect’s owned platform, ensuring safe, phased cutovers and data integrity.
- Set technical direction and roadmap balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform sustainability and scalability.
- Partner closely with Underwriting & Pricing, Claims, Customer Ops, CX and Finance to align platform capabilities with business needs.
- Ensure operational excellence: reliability, observability, incident response, CI/CD, automated testing, and cost-effective cloud operations.
- Hire, mentor and develop engineers, lead performance reviews, and promote a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
- Manage technical debt, security, regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, FCA considerations), and platform governance.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or similar (leading backend/product teams) with responsibility for delivery and team growth.
- Strong technical background in distributed backend systems, APIs, and cloud-native platforms (Kubernetes, Azure or similar).
- Track record of migrating legacy systems to modern architectures and managing complex integrations.
- Experience with CI/CD, observability, infrastructure as code and operational excellence practices.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and product-minded decision-making skills.
- Experience in insurance or financial services is desirable; understanding of regulatory constraints a plus.
