About the role
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain inference systems that serve models at scale, covering request routing, autoscaling, and orchestration.
- Implement batching, caching and other inference optimizations to improve latency and cost-efficiency.
- Support integration of new accelerator hardware and manage multi-region deployments.
- Develop production-grade deployment pipelines, observability and tools for model releases and monitoring.
- Analyse production telemetry to diagnose performance issues and tune systems for real workloads.
- Work closely with research, product and SRE teams to enable both stable production and experimental research use cases.
Requirements:
- Significant software engineering experience, especially with distributed systems and production services.
- Practical knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS or GCP), Kubernetes and orchestration tooling.
- Familiarity with LLM inference strategies (batching, caching), performance tuning and multi-accelerator setups.
- Proficiency in Python or Rust; experience shipping production code and building deployment pipelines.
- Strong debugging, observability and system design skills; ability to operate across engineering and research teams.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; motivated by impact, reliability and technical excellence.

The Inference team is responsible for building and maintaining critical systems that serve Claude to millions of users globally. This includes managing the entire stack from intelligent request routing to fleet-wide orchestration across diverse AI accelerators.
Requirements
Candidates should have significant software engineering experience, particularly with distributed systems and machine learning infrastructure. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required, along with proficiency in languages like Python or Rust.
