Responsibilities:
- Own delivery and technical direction for multiple backend products; ensure predictable, high-quality releases.
- Hire, onboard, coach and retain senior engineers and team leads; run performance reviews and development plans.
- Lead or co-lead agile ceremonies (planning, refinement, retrospectives) and enforce effective delivery practices.
- Drive architectural improvements, reduce technical debt, and set engineering standards and guidelines.
- Manage resource allocation and team structure to balance capacity, risk, and long-term sustainability.
- Promote adoption of modern technologies and scalable approaches across teams; influence cross-team initiatives.
- Represent engineering in cross-functional discussions with product, design, and stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field (Bachelor’s+ preferred).
- 10+ years of backend development experience and significant experience (≈5+ years) managing engineering teams.
- Strong background in high-load distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, microservices, and system design.
- Practical knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases, message brokers, CI/CD, and container platforms (Kubernetes).
- Proven hiring, mentoring, and people-management skills; strong verbal and written communication.
- Experience driving technical strategy, prioritising trade-offs, and raising engineering standards.
- Willingness to work on-site in Lisbon (relocation and visa support available for approved candidates).
