Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical direction of your team: define and manage technical roadmaps with Product and Engineering Managers, prioritize dependencies, and minimise technical debt.
- Architect, build and operate high-availability, high-performance microservices using Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot.
- Drive engineering quality: promote clean code, TDD/BDD, CI/CD, observability and regular production deployments.
- Integrate AI and automation into back-office workflows, implementing model and tool integrations to improve operational productivity.
- Monitor and optimise distributed systems for scalability, reliability and performance.
- Mentor engineers, run code reviews, produce documentation, share knowledge and contribute to hiring and employer brand efforts.

Requirements:
- 5+ years building complex distributed backend systems using Java and/or Kotlin (Spring Boot) in production environments.
- Strong system design skills: OOP, DDD, hexagonal architecture, event-driven and microservices patterns.
- Proven experience designing REST APIs and working with PostgreSQL for performance and scalability.
- Practical DevOps mindset: CI/CD pipelines, observability, and experience with AWS and/or Kubernetes.
- Solid engineering practices: Clean Code, TDD/BDD, testing and maintainable codebases.
- Experience using AI coding assistants responsibly (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude/Gemini) to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring and cross-functional collaboration skills.
