Responsibilities:
- Lead technical roadmap and work with PMs and EMs to prioritise architecture, reduce debt and manage dependencies.
- Architect, build and operate high-availability, high-performance microservices (Java/Kotlin + Spring Boot) that support conversational banking features.
- Integrate AI capabilities and automation (foundational models, pipelines) into backend systems to augment back-office workflows.
- Promote engineering best practices: TDD/BDD, clean code, CI/CD, observability and scalable deployment patterns.
- Measure, monitor and optimise distributed systems for reliability, latency and capacity; drive post-incident improvements.
- Mentor engineers, run code reviews, document designs and participate in recruitment and engineering culture initiatives.

Requirements:
- 5+ years building complex distributed backend systems in Java and/or Kotlin with Spring Boot.
- Strong system design skills, experience with DDD, hexagonal/event-driven architectures and REST API design.
- Proven use of testing-first workflows, observability tools and CI/CD pipelines; production PostgreSQL performance experience.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS) and container orchestration (Kubernetes) is preferred.
- Experience using AI coding agents responsibly to accelerate delivery without compromising code quality.
- Excellent communication, leadership and mentoring skills; bonus for Python or generative-AI product experience.
