Responsibilities:
- Scope and independently lead complex, multi-month distributed systems projects from ambiguity to production.
- Make foundational architectural decisions and set technical direction for other teams to build on.
- Drive cross-team alignment on design, reliability, scalability, and security trade-offs.
- Partner with research and product teams to translate compute and infrastructure needs into technical designs.
- Own reliability, scalability, and security as system usage grows; improve operational practices (incidents, postmortems, on-call).
- Mentor engineers and raise the team’s technical bar.

Requirements:
- Proven experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
- Track record of independently delivering complex, ambiguous technical projects.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one language (e.g., Python, Rust, Go, Java).
- Experience with modern cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes, IaC) on AWS and/or GCP.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; experience driving alignment across stakeholders.
- Preferred: 10+ years of engineering experience, familiarity with ML infrastructure (GPUs/TPUs/Trainium/NCCL), low-level systems work (kernel tuning, eBPF), or security/privacy background.
