Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, test and maintain backend services deployed on AWS to support the Payin Platform.
- Build and operate RESTful APIs serving large volumes of web and mobile traffic.
- Develop and optimise services for card pay-ins and other payment methods handling high transaction volumes.
- Design database schemas and write/optimise SQL for PostgreSQL transactional workloads.
- Build and maintain event-driven processing using Apache Kafka for asynchronous financial events.
- Implement payment orchestration to route transactions across Payment Service Providers for cost and reliability.
- Write unit, integration and end-to-end tests; participate in code reviews and maintain engineering standards.
- Participate in on-call rotations to monitor, triage and resolve production incidents for Tier 2 services.
- Collaborate with product, design, analysts and other engineering teams to deliver cross-functional projects and reduce technical debt.
Requirements:
- Significant experience building scalable backend services and high-throughput APIs in production.
- Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL, schema design and SQL performance optimisation.
- Practical experience with event-driven architectures (Apache Kafka) and asynchronous processing.
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services and running services at scale on cloud infrastructure.
- Proven testing practices (unit/integration/E2E) and experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of payment systems, payment orchestration and handling of sensitive financial data securely.
- Experience with monitoring, performance tuning and on-call incident response for distributed systems.
