Responsibilities:
- Own and evolve core dbt services: maintain CI/CD pipelines, runtime configuration, performance tuning, and quality rules.
- Act as engineering interface for analytics teams: unblock users, review patterns, and raise standards for model structure and SQL craft.
- Build and improve data quality and governance tooling (anomaly detection, freshness monitoring, drift detection, contract enforcement).
- Define and promote data governance practices: data ownership, data product thinking, and contract-first design within a data mesh.
- Contribute to Python-based tooling and observability utilities: write typed, well-tested, maintainable code.
- Collaborate with the data platform team to align shared infrastructure and platform direction.
Requirements:
- Strong problem-solving: quickly scope issues, find root causes, and balance pragmatic fixes with durable solutions.
- Solid Python skills (typed, tested, maintainable code) and proven ability to contribute to shared tooling.
- Strong SQL: read plans, identify performance bottlenecks, and set high standards for production queries.
- Deep dbt experience at scale (macros, hooks, incremental models, project structure, CI/CD integration).
- Track record of improving reliability, quality, or productivity in a data organisation and influencing cross-functional teams.
- Community-oriented: able to mentor, influence without authority, and drive adoption of best practices.
