Software Engineer, Voice AI / Backend at Clera

About the role

Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and operate reliable voice AI systems (RAG, dynamic model routing, transcription testing).
- Implement and run a distributed call scheduler handling concurrency, retries, time zones, and provider limits.
- Extend agents across voice, messaging, and email with shared memory and state for async and real-time flows.
- Build memory/reasoning systems to preserve conversational context across workflows.
- Create AI-assisted tools for agent configuration, debugging, and integrations (CRMs, calendars, email).
- Improve tracing, observability, and resilience to diagnose and handle failures across calls, workers, and providers.

Requirements:
- Production experience building and owning distributed systems and shipping end-to-end projects.
- Proficiency in Python and FastAPI or TypeScript, plus experience with PostgreSQL and Redis (or equivalents).
- Background in real-time systems, audio processing, or voice infrastructure; familiarity with concurrency and fault tolerance.
- Experience deploying LLM/agentic systems and working with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration, message queues, and observability tooling (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Temporal).
- Strong software fundamentals, independent problem-solving, and focus on customer/business outcomes; onsite in Berlin.
